I'm not a fan of Jane's. I'm not an enemy either. But I don't go out of my way to read her. In 2008, she was nowhere when all the sexism and other b.s. attacks were done by Pretty Boy Barack on 'evil' Hillary.
But someone e-mailed saying there was an effort to attack and purge Jane -- and providing a link to a sewer post at Democratic Underground.
I don't see Jane as one of the heroes of 2008. But I don't pretend she hasn't done good at other times. I also think it's telling that the same people are gearing up to go after yet another woman. They really like that, don't they?
So if the reader who e-mailed, e-mails again (even regularly), I'll include a link for Jane (provided I or Sunny see it and, let's be honest, Sunny reads the e-mails at the office and then gives me a heads up).
I wish she'd been stronger in 2008. I wish she'd called out the nonsense that is Barack. But I can say that because I did. I don't know her circumstances, so I don't know what she was going through.
Also true, as I've noted repeatedly at this site over the years, C.I. and I know Barack's inner circle. That's why we were invited to his senate fundraiser when he was running for that office.
I've told the story a million times but it probably needs to be told again. We go there, we're all excited. We're going to max out on our donations because this is an anti-war candidate!
We've got friends who know Barack and are swearing by him.
Also, as I've admitted before, yeah, we were happy and excited to support the campaign of someone bi-racial. What a game changer this could be.
But we went there and we got our face time. He tried to cozy up to us. A little too familiar, honestly. [Before posting, I've pulled three sentences because Rebecca says, "I haven't even identified C.I. in that at my story!" If you're a steady Rebecca reader, you should put together a story she tells quite often. If you're not a Rebecca reader, just be confused.]
So Barack chatters away -- mainly to our breasts -- and then I'm trying to save the situation because C.I.'s not in the mood for the dunse. (Up close and personal, Barack does not come off smart. So sorry to blow any illusions of anyone late to this party.) So I bring up the Iraq War and how it's wrong and it need to end and blah blah. I'm kind of nervous because I know C.I.'s about to shut down on him, she's got that look, that "you've crossed a line" look.
Then Barack states that "we" (the US) can't leave Iraq because "we" are there now.
I am confused. He's the anti-war candidate. I know half his neighborhood and pretty much all of his political stomping ground. What the hell's he saying?
Only I'm not verbalizing that. I'm still processing.
C.I.'s not, she immediately puts a hand up and calls "stop." She asks him how he can be an anti-war candidate and also argue that the troops should stay in Iraq?
He gives us the nonsense that I think many in America have learned to expect from him.
We walk right out of there, don't even wait to let him finish.
So the awakening that many Americans have had since Barack was sworn in? We had it much sooner and much quicker. Were it not for that, would I have gone along with the mad craze of Obama! Obama! Obama!?
As I've said before, I might have gotten fooled.
So I really can't judge Jane on that and won't. But I do wish she'd called out the sexism deployed against Hillary (and against Cynthia and against Sarah and on and on).
